And Chinese New Year 2025 Begins...

Today is New Year’s Eve in China and export production has now come to a virtual standstill, with factories closed and the nation getting ready for this year’s celebrations.

The festivities now continue for two weeks and climax with the Lantern Festival on February 12th. While most factories and businesses are closed for the entire fortnight, the official public holiday is just one week.

The popular Year of the Dragon is replaced by the Year of the Snake tomorrow. Being born in a snake year suggests that you demonstrate wisdom, intuition and transformation, but can also suggest you are secretive and prone to jealousy.

The world's biggest migration of people has been taking place during the past few days, as millions of Chinese nationals travel home from around the globe to be with family during the celebrations.

Many of those already in situ will have been stringently cleaning their homes as a means to ward off bad spirits, and will be in the process of decorating them with red lanterns for good luck.

Logistically, China is pretty much on a major go slow during the next two weeks, and as factories take their time to build export orders after the break, ocean and air freight demand traditionally lags for a further 2/3 weeks.
