The containership ‘Solong’ collided with the ‘Stena Immaculate’ on Monday March 10th, which resulted in several explosions, fires blazing through both ships, and the loss of one crew member.
Rescue teams were unsuccessful in their searches, which have now been called off, and the missing man is now presumed dead. 36 other crew members were taken safely to shore and are understood to be helping Humberside Police with their investigation.
The oil tanker was carrying 220,000 barrels of jet fuel for the US military and was stationary when the containership, travelling at about 16 knots (18mph), crashed into it during fog.
It is likely that all goods aboard the 'Solong' have been damaged beyond repair and the vessel is expected to sink in the North Sea soon.
