Houthi Attacks Ceased On Non Israel Cargo Ships

Houthi Rebels have seemingly brought an end to their attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea region, with the exception of Israeli flagged and owned vessels.

With the Gaza ceasefire now in place, Houthi spokespeople have said they will stop their targeting of cargo ships, just over a year after they began them.

However, they have said that in the event of any aggression against the republic of Yemen by the US, the UK, or Israel, they will resume attacks on US/UK vessels.

This time last year, carriers had started to divert containerships around the Cape Of Good Hope to avoid the attacks, causing major disruption to Asia/European supply chains and adding 10-12 days to transit times.

While the news will be well received, it still remains unlikely that vessels will return to the Suez Canal route in the immediate future.

Not only will there be an element of mistrust in the Houthi promise, but alliances have had to hire and purchase more ships to cover the longer transits which would otherwise become redundant.

Naturally, all eyes will be on the voyages of the first carrier that does eventually use the old route should the ceasefire continue.
