Croft Cargo would like to take the opportunity to raise awareness for Cleakheaton Food Bank and the many others that do such great work around the UK.
While we understand and appreciate this is often something that companies support locally, we were suitably impressed to see our recent donation go straight into stock, rather than administration, to help support the local community.
Following the onset of the pandemic and the current cost of living crisis, food banks are being relied upon by an ever increasing number of households. In the UK, almost 90% of them have seen an increase in demand during December and January, and many organisers fear having to cut support or turn people away.
Food banks are struggling to meet record demand from people who are 'in' work – including NHS staff and teachers – according to IFAN research. This seems to be reflective of food inflation being at 16.7% according to a report published last week by the Office for National Statistics.
Cleakheaton Food Bank was set up by the Cleckheaton Churches Together collective in March 2020, as part of the community response to the Covid-19 pandemic. You can find out further information via their facebook page HERE.
