Tariffs To Be One Of Trump's First Executive Orders

The United States seems to be set to introduce tariff hikes on Canada, Mexico and China after President-elect Donald Trump takes up office in January.

This week, Trump announced on the Truth Media platform that one of his first executive orders will be to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian and Mexican imported products and an increase of 10% on Chinese products.

The US is the biggest importer of products in the world and Canada, Mexico and China are its biggest three suppliers.

Trump said of Canada and Mexico this week “On January 20th, as one of my many first executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous open borders.”

On the subject of China he said that he “had many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular Fentanyl, being sent into the United States – But to no avail” also adding “until such time as they stop, we will be charging China an additional 10% tariff, above any additional tariffs, on all of their many products coming into the United States of America.”

During this year's presidential election campaign, Trump repeatedly threatened to raise China tariffs by 60% and the rest of the world by between 10% and 20%. However, he has not since confirmed any details of tariff hikes for global imports, including the UK.
