UK's New Trade Agreement Is Now Live

The UK’s new CPTPP trade agreement has gone live this week, which is aimed at opening up market opportunities for UK businesses with a number of Asia and Pacific countries.

The new scheme went live on December 15th, when the UK officially became the twelfth trading member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

CPTPP is a free trade agreement aimed at reducing tariffs and trade barriers between its members. The vast majority of products will benefit from duty-free status under CPTPP preference, although some commodity codes are excluded.

However, the specific trading details have not been fully ratified by all individual members yet, which means the agreement will be phased in by country.

The following countries are now live to trade under CPTPP with the UK:

  • Brunei
  • Chile
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • New Zealand
  • Peru
  • Singapore
  • Vietnam

From 24th December, the following country becomes live:

  • Australia

Date yet to be Confirmed, with a minimum of 60 days after ratification.

  • Canada
  • Mexico

There are specific documentary requirements for CPTPP preference, but no preference statements are required.  For further information on the above, please do not hesitate to contact your Croft Cargo team.
